Highlights

Why Shusssh.

What it is
A de-esser that listens to the voice and adapts to it.
What it does
Finds harsh S and T sounds and turns down only those frequencies, only when they happen. Four controls: Sensitivity, Amount, Focus and Output.
What it sounds like
Nothing, when it is working. The vocal keeps its air and its consonants without the sting, and without a lisp.

Shusssh in use

Adaptive vocal de-essing with Sensitivity, Amount, Focus and Output. Shape distracting consonants while keeping the performance intelligible.

For engineers

How it works.

Separate detection from the amount of treatment

Start with Sensitivity while the vocal plays against the music. Raise it until the distracting consonants are consistently recognised, then adjust Amount for how much treatment the phrase needs. These controls solve different problems: reacting more often is not the same as reducing an event more strongly.

Leave Focus at AUTO initially. Move it lower or higher only when the automatic emphasis misses the offending region. Focus biases a moving detector; it is not a fixed frequency dial or an eight-kilohertz preset for every singer.

Keep the delivery of the words

For a bright lead, compare Shusssh before and after the stage that makes the consonants conspicuous. Choose the position that lets you use the least treatment. Match with Output and listen for the beginning and end of each word, not just the disappearance of the sharp sound.

For stacked backing vocals, try one instance on the stereo group and compare it with lighter processing on the individual takes. A useful result leaves the stack clear without making every singer sound identically softened.

Shape what reaches a vocal effect

A dedicated vocal send is another useful place to try Shusssh. Treat the copy feeding a bright reverb or long delay so an isolated consonant does not dominate the tail. Keep the dry lead on its own path and judge the return in the arrangement.

The engine combines a spectral mask with limited wideband action and gain compensation. Use the UI Listen command to inspect the treatment, then return to normal playback to make the musical decision.

Questions

Something else? Contact support

What are the actual Shusssh controls?
Sensitivity, Amount, Focus and Output are its four sound controls, with a host-automatable Bypass. Listen is a separate UI command. Focus biases automatic tracking and defaults to AUTO.
Where should I put Shusssh on a vocal?
Compare it before and after the insert that brings the consonants forward. Use the position that controls the distraction with the least audible change to phrasing. A separate instance can treat the signal feeding a vocal effect.
Can I try it on acoustic guitar or percussion?
Yes, as a source-dependent experiment. The detector is designed for sibilance, so it may respond differently to pick noise, squeaks or cymbals. Keep the setting only when it removes a distraction without softening the musical attack.
What happens when the trial ends?
When the trial ends the plug-in stops processing audio until you buy it. Sessions still open, and buying needs no reinstall.
Can I get my money back?
Yes. On top of your statutory rights, there's a 14-day money-back guarantee. Read the refund policy
