Valence in brief
- What it is
- A valve saturation plug-in with separate pentode and triode stages.
- What it does
- Adds valve colour to a band you choose, anywhere from 40 Hz to 16 kHz, with power-supply sag, a transformer stage and small differences between instances like real hardware.
- What it sounds like
- Warmth and thickness without mud. Rich harmonics where you want them, with the low end kept tight.
Choose a Focus region on a familiar part, add Parallel gradually, and compare with matched output levels.
How it is built
Pentode and Triode stages have their own controls, and you choose between three valve topologies, T, P1 and P2. Input and Drive set how hard the valves work, Bias, Transformer and Character shape the tone, and Sag lets the power supply give under load. Focus picks a region for an extra return of valve colour, anywhere from 40 Hz to 16 kHz, and Parallel sets how much of it comes back. Mix then blends the whole effect with the dry signal.
Focus adds colour, it does not split the band
Focus feeds an extra return of valve colour from the region you choose: Full, Low, Band or High. Parallel sets how much of that return comes back. The main valve path still works on the whole signal, so a narrow Focus is not a band-only processor. Start with Parallel low and raise it with the rest of the track playing.
