Capital Punishment in brief

What it is
A saturation plug-in with five different circuits: two valve stages, a transistor stage, a valve tape chain and a germanium stage.
What it does
Adds harmonics and weight, with Drive and Tone tuned separately for each circuit. Auto Gain keeps the level matched, so you hear the colour rather than a volume jump.
What it sounds like
Anything from a subtle thickening on the mix bus to thick, compressed crunch. BLOOM is warm and rounded, CURRENT is brighter and more aggressive.

Keep the source fixed while comparing circuits, then add Drive gradually and judge it in the full mix.

How it is built

Each Style is its own circuit, not a new label on one curve. BLOOM is triode-led and rounded, CURRENT is pentode-led and brighter, FRAME is a discrete path between transformers, OXIDE is a valve-and-tape chain and IRON is germanium into a transformer. Drive and Tone are tuned for each circuit. Gain compensation on the wet path is always on, and Mix blends with the dry signal in a way that follows how closely the two line up.

Tone moves more than the top end

In IRON, Tone also moves the high-pass and the EQ around it. Turn it brighter and a part gains presence and loses some weight. That suits a thin bridge guitar or a percussion layer that has to sit above the kick. Check the low end before you copy the setting onto a bass.
