Highlights

Why Iron Curtain.

What it is
A synth built from recordings of Soviet-era hardware: an analogue synth, a string machine, a second synth and a wavetable layer.
What it does
Plays all four layers at once and blends them with one Blok control, glued together through a tape stage.
What it sounds like
Warm, slightly unstable Eastern Bloc analogue: hazy strings, thick pads and gritty leads.

Iron Curtain in use

Iron Curtain blends Synth, Strings, Oddity and Wavetable layers with the Blok macro, shared tone and performance controls, tape colour and four effect macros.

For engineers

How it works.

Find the layer balance that fits the part

Play a small chord progression and sweep Blok slowly. Listen to which layer supplies the body and which gives the top its identity. Stop at a useful balance.

Then set Attack and Release for the arrangement. A pad that enters too quickly can compete with a picked instrument; a release that overlaps every chord change can obscure the harmony. Build the note shape before widening the result.

Change a layer's source deliberately

Compare the Synth and Strings model choices on the same phrase. Machine, Analogue/Divider and Hybrid directions develop the layer in different ways. Oddity offers Machine, Grain and FM, while Wavetable supplies another kind of texture.

Use each layer's own controls to resolve its contribution before compensating with a large global Tone move. Not every model uses every control in the same way, and a changing Blok balance can reveal a layer that was previously quiet.

Let one held note develop

Choose a trajectory when the blend should move over the note rather than staying static. Keep the movement restrained enough to preserve the phrase's pitch and intended emphasis, then use Drift or a small amount of stereo spread if it adds life.

Introduce Drive, Squeeze, Delay or Room one at a time. The shared colour path already contributes to the combined voice; more effects are useful only when their role is audible in the arrangement. Match Output Level after building the texture.

Questions

Something else? Contact support

Are all four layers always equally audible?
No. Blok and the layer settings determine their contributions. The architecture supplies four layers rather than four permanently equal voices.
Is it only a sample player?
No. The active layer model choices combine machine-source and synthesis directions.
Should I automate Blok throughout every note?
Static is a valid choice. Use a trajectory or automation when the movement supports the phrase.
What happens when the trial ends?
When the trial ends the plug-in stops processing audio until you buy it. Sessions still open, and buying needs no reinstall.
Can I get my money back?
Yes. On top of your statutory rights, there's a 14-day money-back guarantee. Read the refund policy
