Set up plug-ins in your first home studio

Begin with one working session. A large collection is useful only when you can install it, find it in your host and use it for a clear purpose. This checklist links to the existing DAW-specific setup guides.

  • Drum Berry
  • Band Practice
The order

Step by step

Change the order if the material asks for it. The reasons are in each step.

  1. 1. Match the host and installer

Check the operating system, architecture and supported format on the current product and DAW pages. Install the matching build, then rescan using your host’s plug-in manager.

  2. 2. Make one part

Choose a free instrument such as FB-60 or Drum Berry, load it on an instrument track and record a short MIDI part. Confirm that audio reaches the master and that the project recalls correctly.

  3. 3. Solve one mix problem

Use your host’s own tools first. Band Practice is another free EQ option. Compare one deliberate change at matched output level before adding more processors or buying a bundle.

Listening check

Close and reopen the saved session. Confirm that the instrument, patch, routing and level return as expected. A small reliable setup is enough to finish a first track.

FAQ

Questions about this chain

Do I need paid plug-ins to finish my first track?
No. Use the instruments and effects supplied with your DAW, or a small compatible free set. Buy another tool when you can name a problem that the current setup does not solve.
