Hit streaming loudness without crushing the mix

A loudness number is a delivery check, not a reason to flatten the arrangement. Work from the platform’s current requirements and the song’s musical accents. The detailed guide below covers true-peak limiting.

The order

Step by step

Change the order if the material asks for it. The reasons are in each step.

  1. 1. Fix the peak in the mix

Find whether one kick, bass note or vocal phrase is forcing the whole mix into gain reduction. Correct that track before raising the limiter input again.

  2. 2. Compare the final level

Use one final limiter and compare candidate settings at similar playback loudness. Finish Him offers four styles and separate working/render quality settings; choose deliberately rather than maximising every control.

  3. 3. Measure the delivered file

Export the complete song, read integrated loudness and true peaks with an independent meter and check any delivery encode. Leave more headroom or reduce limiting when the encoded result needs it.

Listening check

Compare quiet passages, transitions and the loudest chorus. The accents should still describe the song when playback is level matched. A lower loudness reading can be the better result.

FAQ

Questions about this chain

Must every song reach the same LUFS value?
No. Follow the destination’s current delivery requirements, then preserve the arrangement. Normalisation targets do not require every master to have identical dynamics.
