Highlights

Why Mastering Tape Suite.

What it is
A tape machine followed by a mastering chain: EQ, compressor, saturation and limiter.
What it does
Prints your mix to tape at 7.5, 15 or 30 ips on one of three tape types, then finishes it for release in the same plug-in.
What it sounds like
Denser and more glued, with a warmer low end, a smoother top and the gentle movement of a real transport.

For engineers

How it works.

Set the tape before the rack

Start with the downstream EQ and dynamics neutral or disabled. Compare speed and formula on a representative phrase, then adjust Input Gain and Calibration for the amount of tape colour. Use Output Level to make the comparison fair.

The Output tab has its own Drive. That control belongs to the later output saturation and limiter path; it is not a second tape-input knob. Keeping the two jobs separate makes it easier to hear which stage is softening a drum hit or thickening a bass line.

Choose low-end shape deliberately

Try the three speeds on a bass or drum stem before reaching for more low-frequency EQ. Speed influences the head response and emphasis; Formula changes the magnetic behaviour and operating headroom. Formula does not select a different emphasis standard.

Head Bump at zero retains the model's intrinsic speed-dependent response. Its control adds or subtracts from that response. At 30 ips, NAB and CCIR both resolve to AES, so the Emphasis selection is inactive. There is also a fixed 30 Hz high-pass ahead of tape to consider on sub-heavy sources.

Turn transport movement into an arrangement choice

On a sustained electric piano, guitar or pad, start with Wow and Flutter off and bring in only enough movement to give the held notes a useful instability. A short, muted part may need a different amount from a long chord because the pitch movement has more time to reveal itself.

For a contrast section, automate the transport controls on the instrument stem rather than applying conspicuous movement to the entire record. Hiss is optional: its minimum position is Off. Return to the surrounding bars to decide whether the texture supports the transition.

Questions

Something else? Contact support

Does Formula change the head-bump frequency?
Formula changes the magnetic curve, headroom and associated tape behaviour. The native bump frequency depends on speed and the head model; Emphasis follows speed and its own selection.
Why does Emphasis stop changing the sound at 30 ips?
Both NAB and CCIR selections use AES at 30 ips in this implementation. Compare the selectable emphasis responses at 7.5 or 15 ips.
How do I turn off movement and noise?
Set Wow and Flutter to zero, and Hiss to its minimum Off position. Head Bump at zero means no additional adjustment, rather than removing the tape model's native response.
What happens when the trial ends?
When the trial ends the plug-in stops processing audio until you buy it. Sessions still open, and buying needs no reinstall.
Can I get my money back?
Yes. On top of your statutory rights, there's a 14-day money-back guarantee. Read the refund policy
